Vivanza Overview

Vivanza is a medicine that contains the active substance “vardenafil”.  It is offered as film-coated tablets (5, 10 and 20 mg) and as orodispersible tablets (10 mg). Orodispersible tablets are tablets that dissolve in the mouth. Vivanza is specially designed for the males suffering from erection problem. Vivanza is manufactured by Bayer Pharma AG.

How Vivanza work?

The active ingredient of Vivanza, vardenafil, belongs to a group of medicines called phosphodiesterase-type-5 (PDE5) inhibitors. It blocks the phosphodiesterase enzyme which normally breaks down a substance known as cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). Sexual stimulation produces cGMP in the penis, where it relaxes the spongy tissue of the penis (the corpora cavernosa). This allows the blood to flow into the corpora, there by producing an erection. The blocking results in the breakdown of cGMP, Vivanza renovates erectile function. Sexual stimulation is still required to produce an erection.

How is Vivanza used?

The recommended dosage of Vivanza is 10 mg, taken by mouth, about 30 to 60 minutes before the sexual encounter. Patients should not take more than one dose a day. Vivanza must be consumed without any liquid. If Vivanza is consumed with a high-fat meal, the onset of activity can be delayed. The dosage can be increased to a maximum of 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg depending on the efficiency and side effects. Men with liver problems or severe kidney problems should start the dose with 5 mg. Do not take Vivanza:

• If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to vardenafil or any other ingredients of Vivanza. Allergic reaction signs may include a rash, swollen face or lips or even shortness of breath
• If you are taking medicines having nitrates, like glycerol trinitrate for angina, or nitric oxide donors, like amyl nitrite. Taking these medication with Vivanza could have a serious impact on your blood pressure

• If you are over 75 years of age and are taking ketoconazole or itraconazole, anti-fungal medicines
• If you have a serious heart or liver problem
• If you are having kidney dialysis
• If you have low blood pressure
• If you have ever had a disorder involving loss of vision due to damage to the optic nerve from in-sufficient supply of blood known as non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION)

Risk Factor associated with Vivanza

Vivanza must not be used in people who are hypersensitive (allergic) to vardenafil or any of the other ingredients. It is advisable not to use during sexual encounter, such as in men with severe heart disease. It must also not be taken by men who have ever had loss of vision because of a problem with blood flow to the nerve in the eye.
